What is communion preparation?
SPC celebrates communion on the first Sunday of each month, Maundy Thursday, and Christmas Eve. Preparation generally involves cutting up two loaves of bread into cubes, and filling small plastic cups with grape juice. These elements will be placed in communion trays for services.
Who may participate in this ministry?
Anyone may participate in this ministry. It is a great opportunity for families to share together.
What are the basic duties of communion preparers?
Stage one begins on Saturday. Bread and juice are prepared according to directions. The table is set up in the sanctuary for the 9:30 service.
Stage two takes place on Sunday following the 9:30 service. Leftover bread and juice are brought to the Upper Room, replaced, and trays go back to the communion table in the sanctuary. Receptacles for receiving used juice cups are removed from the sanctuary.
Stage three completes the duties following the 11:00 am service. Remove all elements from the sanctuary, discard leftover bread and juice, wipe off trays, check white cloths for stains. Remove the receptacles for receiving used juice cups.
How often does a volunteer serve?
Once or twice a year.
Does it involve training?
Training involves doing the ministry with a more experience preparer; written instructions are available and kept in the Upper Room.
