Denominational Update
Spotsylvania Presbyterian Church has a long history of teaching and supporting the principles of the Bible.  Our Vision Statement includes the phrase that we exist to, “Discover the truth of God’s Word and apply it to every area of life.”

While grateful for the foundation we have received from our denomination, the Presbyterian Church USA, we have also had a long standing concern about some of the actions of the denomination.  Over the last several years, the issue of potentially allowing for the ordination of persons sexually active outside of the covenant of marriage has been especially troubling to the leadership of the church.  We stand with many Bible-based PCUSA congregations that are seeking to prevent this new position on ordination as well as to seek new and creative ways to move forward and be faithful to God’s Word in these changing times.

Please notice the links on this page to resources that can provide helpful information as to the background of this debate, current status of voting in the Presbyteries across the denomination, and past actions of SPC.  Please continue to pray for the peace, unity, and purity of the Presbyterian Church.  If you have any questions feel free to contact the pastor or a session member.

SPOTSYLVANIA PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH
PRESS RELEASE:

In response to the recent change in the standard for officers in the Presbyterian Church (USA), the session of Spotsylvania Presbyterian Church expresses deep sadness and concern. Removing the requirement that leaders of the church should live in either “fidelity in marriage or chastity in singleness” reflects a view that is inconsistent with the teaching of the Bible. It also represents a departure from the witness of historic Christianity through the ages and separates the denomination from the vast majority of Christians around the world who do not support this view. Likewise, Spotsylvania Presbyterian Church does not share the views of the PCUSA in this matter and will continue to fulfill its vision of graciously reaching out to all people while affirming the standards of the Bible regarding morality and the nature of marriage. A more detailed response from the church can be found at its website at www.spcontheweb.org
