Middle School (& 5th Graders!) Summer trip to Ligonier This summer’s “On the Edge” trip to Ligonier Camp for middle school students (including students currently in 5th grade!) will be July 11-15. A deposit of $100 is due March 15. If you have questions or would like more information, please contact Tim Habecker at the church.
Baked Potato Luncheon Please join us today for some specially prepared spuds and tasty desserts following the 11:00 worship service. Brought to you by the youth ministry; all proceeds go toward the camp and missions “scholarship fund.”
The "Change for Change" Offering is Today This "noisy offering" is intended to be worshipful to God and celebrative of God's call to us to reach out to children in Haiti, Kenya, Peru and the U.S.A. May God bless you as you make a “joyful noise” to bless others for the glory of Jesus Christ.
SAM Lunch with Friends Join fellow members and friends at the Old Country Buffet on Route 3 on 3/14 for our monthly gathering. This luncheon is the second Sunday of each month (unless otherwise noted) and provides great fellowship and food. No reservations needed – just pay at the door and look for us in the dining room. Tables will be held until 12:45 p.m., so please arrive early. Any questions call Martie Levere at (540) 220-4847 and remember, we welcome new faces so please come join us!!!
Tues. 4 May National Harbor Place: SAM and the Lee's Hill 55 Club are planning a one day spring outing to the National Harbor Place and Gaylord Hotel in Maryland on the Potomac River. We will have a chance to stroll the quaint streets, visit some shops, and have lunch at one of the many restaurants or hotels. The cost of $25.00 pp covers the bus only. Call us and sign up early. The bus will leave the Lee’s Hill South Community Center at 9:00 a.m. and return about 4:00 p.m.
Canada & New England Cruise on Norwegian Cruise line (9/23 – 10/3). We are planning an exciting 8 day cruise leaving from New York on Norwegian Cruise Lines “Dawn”. Ports of Call are Halifax, Nova Scotia; St. John, Newfoundland; Bar Harbor, ME; Boston, MA; and Newport, RI. We have upgraded state rooms with balconies. The cost is $1365.00 pp which includes bus transportation from Lee’s Hill South Community Center and the return trip. Insurance forms and flyers are available. SPC Women’s Circle will meet on March 16, 2010, at the church. Bring a sandwich and join us at 12:30. Please study Lesson Seven. Anyone needing a ride, please call Shirley Bazey at 548-5286 or Carolyn Miller at 548-2746. This month we will be collecting men’s clothing for Micah.
Lenten Commitment Opportunity During Lent, there will be commitment cards in the Friendship Pad Folders. If you would like to respond to God’s grace with a tangible commitment – a confession, an act of devotion, or service, etc., you can fill out the card and place it in the basket at the foot of the cross in the front of the Sanctuary at any time during the service.
Easter Lilies The Worship Committee will purchase Easter Lilies to be placed in the Sanctuary on Easter Sunday, April 4. As in the past, you may purchase lilies in memory or in honor of family members, friends, or events. Folders with sign-up sheets are in the Narthex and the Fellowship Hall Foyer. The price per lily is $8.50. Payment is preferred in the form of a check made payable to “SPC” with a note in the memo line “Easter Lilies”. The Worship Committee thanks you in advance for your support in this season.
Port-a-Pantry Week 5 (March 17-23) Find some way to give up the use of white sugar for this week. You can give it up totally, in baking and table foods, or in any way you can commit to. Buy something sweet and bring it to the church. Pray for a sweet spirit of unity to pass through the communal body of Christ in many locations.
Bethany Christian Services of Fredericksburg is offering a free information meeting on March 16, 2010, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. The meeting will be held in our Fredericksburg office, 1616 Stafford Avenue, Fredericksburg, VA. Good Friday Readers We are seeking two men, two women, one teenage boy and one teenage girl to volunteer as readers for the Good Friday service. All parts are to be read, not memorized, and all are short. If you are interested, please see Susan Onderdonk.
The Discipleship Class will conduct a special two week study called "Who Is This Jesus" on March 28 (Palm Sunday) and April 4 (Easter Sunday). The class will meet at 9:30 at Minnieland. For more information, go to the Adult Ministry link on the church website or call Stan Huie (786-4843). This study will be followed by a six week study called "The Prodigal God" centering on the story of the Prodigal Son and the two primary ways that men and women run away from God.
Attention Gardeners! Winter is almost over and the Haiti/Kenya Plant Sale is on April 17. Now is the time to dig and split those perennials for potting. We also need donations of potting soil and compost. If you have a compost pile, we need good dirt. Please email johnconway@earthlink.net or call (540) 760-1963 to schedule digging or dig yourself and deliver to the Franklins house @ 503 Lewis St. downtown Fredericksburg. Please call ASAP so we can pot the plants and grow them for the final sale.
5 Conversations You Must Have With Your Daughter This Ladies Bible study begins Wednesday, March 24 at 9:30 in the Calvin Room. This study is for moms of daughters from the cradle to college and will help you discover God’s take on critical issues from moms who’ve been there. From growing up too fast to online chat rooms, this study covers the hot-button issues you’re sure to face and give you the tools to navigate the land mines with confidence.
The Evangelism/New Member committee will be hosting a Progressive Dinner to welcome new members who have joined SPC over the past year. If you think that you might be interested in hosting (or assisting a host) with a dinner or dessert in your home for 8-10 people on Saturday, May 15, please contact Ardee Hallock at 540-891-9009 by March 31.
